The edge, explained.
OddsWatch finds promos with real positive expected value — and tells you before they disappear. Here's exactly how it works.
What +EV actually means
Every promo has a fair price — what that outcome is actually worth based on current market odds. When a sportsbook offers boosted odds above that price, you have positive expected value: you're being paid more than the real probability warrants.
The formula is straightforward:
Anything above 0% is positive EV. A +15% EV on a $50 stake is worth roughly $7.50 in expectation. Over enough opportunities, those edges compound.
For free bets and no-sweat bets, the raw payout calculation doesn't capture the full picture — you only win the profit, not the stake. OddsWatch applies a 70% conversion rate to estimate dollar EV, the same method the Free Bet Converter uses.
Each scored promo also carries a confidence score between 0 and 1. It weights two factors: how fresh the market quote is, and whether multiple books corroborate the line. A stale quote from a single source scores lower than a live quote confirmed across three books.
Five books, checked every 15 minutes
The promo-monitor agent scrapes all five major US sportsbooks on a 15-minute cadence via a scheduled cron job. Promos are compared against live market odds, scored, and written to the database — stale entries are expired automatically.
How you find out
When a promo clears the EV threshold, OddsWatch fires an alert through your configured delivery channel. Two options:
Webhook — a POST request to a URL you register. The payload includes the promo details, EV%, confidence score, and expiry time. Wire it to Slack, Discord, a custom dashboard, or anything that speaks HTTP.
Email — a direct alert to your registered address. Includes the same data in a scannable format.
Both channels include an urgency flag when a promo's expiry window is short — so you know which ones to act on first.
Built for sharp bettors, by sharp bettors
OddsWatch came out of frustration: promo hunting is genuinely high-EV work, but manually checking five books every 15 minutes isn't a sustainable edge. The math is straightforward; the execution isn't.
We built the automation we wanted to use ourselves — a monitoring agent that does the tedious part so you can focus on the decision. We're not affiliated with any sportsbook, and we don't take a cut of your action.
The system is intentionally transparent about what it knows and doesn't. Confidence scores exist because markets move fast and scrapes can lag. We'd rather surface an honest estimate than a confident wrong number.
